It’s late morning here in Arizona. The sun is shining. The sky is blue and the air, besides the pollen and allergens, is pretty good.
The sun brings warmth and joy. Where I live, winter and spring are generally the most temperate. By April or May though it’s getting hot. June, July, and August forget it! That joyful sun that you’ll see in cold weather areas will be a delight.
Regardless, we all have our beautiful sunny days no matter where we are.
My favorite season is the fall. It’s cooling off and there’s always someplace to go to see the changing of the colors. And the flashing sparkles of light that filter through the falling leaves fills my heart with song. I just want, and frequently do, break out in John Denver’s song, “Sunshine on my shoulders”. Be grateful you can’t hear me!
How do we get to that point on an everyday basis? The reality is, we can’t. Life is dirty. It’ll throw rocks and filth at us. Some of us, me included, can’t just ‘shake it off’, like some would have us do. But what I say here is good for every human regardless of your coping strategy.
We all have outer skin. For some it is tough, for some it is fragile, and still, others have a healthy balance MOST of the time. In finding our sunshine moments we need to shed that skin just as a snake shed’s his/hers.
Under that skin we can find and, if desired, share who we are. That beautiful, soft, resilient skin. There are many times we need to ‘shed’. To be there for each other and treat ourselves well, we also need to balance the tenderness and toughness of ourselves.
Balance, light, joy. “Sunshine on my shoulders makes me smile.” Thank you, Mr. Denver.
Love, light, joy, truth, and peace to you.
